so i'm trying to help steer a few good friends in the right direction, but i need your help. let's assume for a moment that you're in your early 30's, single, outgoing and you just got a really good job in Irvine.....where in the OC would you want to live and why?

Re: where to live?
Thu, March 16, 2006 - 9:59 PMNot Irvine. That's all I gotta say. North of Irvine is good, though, because you'd be driving against the flow of traffic on the 405.
Maybe Huntington or Seal Beach. Closer, parts of Costa Mesa or maybe Orange. Tustin's no place to meet people. Maybe the LB? -

Re: where to live?
Thu, March 16, 2006 - 10:35 PMfirst of all, thanks for the feed back.
we're probably going to check out seal beach and huntington this weekend...any thoughts on Belmont Shores?
thanks again for the help! -

Re: where to live?
Fri, March 17, 2006 - 10:45 AMHB or CM for sure. Seal Beach could be good, but I don't know enough about the social life there. Belmont Shores starts to get too far away from a job in Irvine, in my opinion, and it could be too expensive to live there to be worth the drive. -

Re: where to live?
Fri, March 17, 2006 - 3:16 PMIf I worked in Irvine, I would definitely consider Costa Mesa, very close. I live in Huntington Beach and I would recommend it, but depending on what time of day you are commuting, traffic could definitely suck, even for the relatively short distance. CM has got some happenin' spots and it is close to Newport Beach, the Gold Coast ! -

Re: where to live?
Mon, April 10, 2006 - 12:13 AMI currently live in HB. It's a great place to live but it's more expensive than most of north county. I know parts of Costa Mesa are pretty nice and fairly inexpensive, especially if you live in the metro area. Overall, I'd stick with HB or CM. You don't really want to be living in Garden Grove, Westminster, Stanton, or Anaheim simply for the fact that those areas aren't as nice. It really comes down to how much you're willing to pay and the neighborhood you want to live in.

UPDATE
Mon, April 10, 2006 - 7:53 AMof the four friends that are moving out here, so far one has settled in Laguna Beach and another is steering to Newport Beach.
The other two are still up in the air about where to live. The real estate market seems to be fluxuating a bit, so i think they are trying to figure out what the best move is....as i side note, i might get a place with one of them (strictly as an investment). -

Re: UPDATE
Fri, August 25, 2006 - 9:36 AMLaguna Beach is great. I live in Aliso Viejo on the boarders of Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach. I love it there. However, I miss the night life and activities that were closer in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. I used to live in Huntington Beach.

Re: where to live?
Mon, April 10, 2006 - 9:46 PMI work in Santa Ana, living in HB, and it takes about 40 minutes for me to get to work. But I wouldn't live anywhere else in So. Cal.
I vote HB. -

Re: where to live?
Mon, May 1, 2006 - 4:32 PMOC is a pricey place to live in .. defaintely over-priced .. given the current trend in gas prices .. i would recommend living next to work if possible .. what's the point of driving 40mins everyday one way to get to work .. not only did one loose 80mins of the day .. but also burning money on gas and not to account for wear and tear on the car ..
that's my opinion ..
peace,

Re: where to live?
Mon, May 1, 2006 - 4:46 PMas luck would have it, there is a pretty decent chance that I might be moving down to the OC also. I'm already looking at places in Costa Mesa, Newport and Irvine....any thoughts on those places? -

Re: where to live?
Sun, May 7, 2006 - 7:35 PMFirst of all, Irvine is WAY OVERPRICED. You're basically paying to live in a bubble. There's really no reason to live in Irvine unless you like living in a massivly planned city and you like paying hundreds of dollars more to rent a place that's not any better than a place you'd find in any of the adjacent cities. Newport and Costa Mesa are pretty decent areas. I know that there are a bunch of privately owned places in the Costa Mesa Metro area that have rent control and they're pretty well kept. Costa Mesa Metro is cheaper because it's close to Santa Ana sans the ghetto-ness. You can also find some relatively decent priced places in Newport, You'll be paying a tiny bit more because you're living near the beach but it's not something that'll break your wallet.
Personally, I'd put my vote on HB but that's just because I live there. There's just something different about living in a beach city. Decent rent, great city, good eats and close enough to everything in OC but stil next to the beach. -

Re: where to live?
Sun, May 7, 2006 - 8:50 PMall things being equal, lets forget about renting for a minute...where would you most like to buy a place? (i'll probably only live in the place for 5 years or so and i'm looking to get the best return on my investment) -

Re: where to live?
Fri, May 12, 2006 - 11:52 PMbuy? Aliso Viejo, because the prices are still...reasonable in some way. But damn. You want bang for your buck, Irvine.

Re: where to live?
Tue, June 27, 2006 - 12:33 AMMiddle City. It's tiny, it's in huntington beach, but cheap, it's on the water so prices are garentieed to go up forever. Middle City. govermentally, it's not huntington, but blink and you miss it.

Re: where to live?
Fri, August 25, 2006 - 9:34 AMTo avoid a nasty drive, to meet people and to have lots to do, I would suggest Huntington Beach (the farthest), Costa Mesa or Newport Beach. Irvine is not too bad, UCI is there. However, for the same price sometimes you can live more near the ocean. The best time to look seems to be any time but the summer.
